About Us

Who are we?

The Glasgow Clan Ice Futures Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) formed in 2024 and approved by OSCR (the Scottish Charity Regulator).

The Charity operates with the blessing of the Glasgow Clan – permitted to carry the team name in our title, and we are very proud and honoured to do so.

The Charity aims to raise funds to allow it to deliver benefits to our community through a set of agreed objectives.

What We Do?

Our objectives are:

  • The advancement of participation in the sport of ice hockey and other ice-based activities
  • The promotion of the health benefits of exercise and good nutrition
  • The provision of opportunities for all age groups in the community to engage in ice sports, or in other activities, that deliver physical and/or mental health benefits
  • The provision of equipment and resources necessary to conduct the charitable activities

Participation

We aim to provide opportunities for young people to get involved with ice hockey, and ice sports in general.

In our first year of existence, we developed and launched the Clan Academy as a junior ice hockey development organisation aimed initially at youngsters aged between 4 and 14 years of age.

The Academy offers access to ice-time, facilities and structured coaching to help youngsters develop skills in a fun, safe environment at a reasonable cost.

For more information on how to get involved, visit the Clan Academy website here.

Education

Working with the Glasgow Clan, and in collaboration with other partners, we aim to share knowledge and experience about how the professional athletes within ice hockey have benefitted through participation in sport and share their views on the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

These engagements will explain the benefits of getting involved in ice sports, and how participation can play a key part in developing good physical and mental health.

Engagements sessions will have a fun element too – and give kids a chance to see some skills, try equipment for themselves and get a chance to try their own skating skills.

Playing Our Part in Supporting Our Community

The Charity believes that we should care about the members of our ice sports community and the wider local community that we serve in the Renfrew/Glasgow area.

We recognise that there are needs for better health and exercise within our community among people who are perhaps not keen or capable of participating on the ice, and we will aim to deliver wellbeing options to them as well.

Equipment and Resources

The Charity recognises that ice hockey (and other ice sports) can be expensive to participate in – largely due to the outlay required by organisations to provide the necessary equipment and services. It can also be expensive for individuals to make a start in the sport due to the prohibitive cost of player kit.

We will aim to raise funds to provide the Academy with the necessary equipment to offer the best environment to develop our young athletes.

Also, the Charity aims to raise funds so that the Academy can establish a β€˜library’ of player equipment so that start-up costs can be delayed (or removed) for new participants.

Subject to funding, the Charity may be able to assist youngsters gain a route to participate in the sport in cases where it may not otherwise be financially possible.
